We are pleased to announce that we have finalised the design of the revision 2 "Nemo" motherboard. Following an extensive testing programme, as well as implementing a number of minor hardware fixes, we have opted to specify an upgrade to the "Xena" XMOS subsystem to provide greater functionality and performance. The revision 2 standard will be the version shipping under the AmigaOne X1000 Beta Test Programme. With the design finalised, Hyperion Entertainment will soon be sending out the Beta Test information pack to everyone who registered their interest in joining the AmigaOne X1000 Beta Test programme.
In other good news, the Hyperion Entertainment software developers have made excellent progress since the AmigaOne X1000's public debut at the Vintage Computer Festival in June, and AmigaOS4 is now running stably at the fastest CPU speeds. Two AmigaOne X1000 machines will be on display at the "Amiga Event 2010" in Essen on the 24th July, demonstrating the latest developments.

A-EON Technology CVBA and Varisys Ltd., are pleased to announce their partnership in the development of the AmigaOne X1000 hardware platform for AmigaOS.
Varisys Ltd were identified as the ideal hardware partner for the ambitious project to create a new, genuinely modern computer system to run AmigaOS4.x in late 2008, even before the formal creation of A-EON Technology. In early 2009, Varisys Ltd began work on developing a new PowerPC based motherboard, codenamed Nemo, which would form the heart of the new AmigaOne X1000 computer. After months of design and testing, Varisys delivered the first Nemo prototypes in late 2009 and have now completed a Revision 2 design, which will be supplied to beta testers under the recently announced Extended Beta Test Program.
A-EON Technology director Trevor Dickinson said "We are very pleased to reveal Varisys as our AmigaOne X1000 hardware partner. They have a proven track record for delivering high quality products on time and to budget. Their extensive experience with PowerPC and parallel processing solutions makes them our ideal technical partners, and with their help we can revitalise the AmigaOne platform". Varisys Managing Director Paul Gentle said "We are equally pleased to be working with A-EON Technology and we believe our previous background and experience will prove vital in helping to make the AmigaOne X1000 a success" Adam Barnes, Varisys co-founder, added. "The Nemo motherboard design introduced some new and interesting technical challenges but we are extremely pleased with the results. Revision 2 of the Nemo board has recently been completed and will form a solid foundation for the A1-X1000 and beyond".
Visitors to the VCF Exhibition at Bletchley Park on Saturday, June the 19th, will be able to meet some of the Varisys team on the joint A-EON Technology / Hyperion Entertainment stand.

AmigaOne X1000 Beta Test Team and Program
You may have read in various interviews that AmigaOS 4.1 has been booting to Workbench on the AmigaOne X1000 hardware for quite some time. We can also confirm that additional Nemo prototypes have been supplied to several OS4 developers to allow them to complete the necessary onboard hardware drivers (SATA, Ethernet and HD sound, USB is already mostly working). Meanwhile a revision 2 version of the Nemo motherboard is being finalised and to ensure we have the widest possible testing we are making 100 Rev 2 motherboards available to Beta testers under a special discount program.
We have received many request from Amigans who wish to join the Beta Test team and these will be processed by Hyperion-Entertainment who are coordinating the Beta Test program in conjunction with A-EON Technology. The next issue of Amiga Future magazine contains an A1-X1000 progress report and pictures of the new branded case.
(Shameless plug) The same issue also contains the next installment of the "Amiga Retrospective" series written by A-EON co-founder, Trevor Dickinson. Part 18, entitled "Amiga - we have a problem?" covers the year 2008 which, although overshadowed by the continuing Amiga, Inc. legal action against Hyperion-Entertainment, marked the release of AmigaOS4.1 update and the availability of a beta version of AmigaOS4.1 for ACube's SAM440ep. Part 18 also covers the emergence of Classic FPGA Amiga clones and the rise of Classic Amiga emulation through Super Workbench distributions and VmwAros. And much more!
Issue 84 (May/June) should be released in early May and can be ordered from the Amiga Future website.

It has been a while coming, but welcome to the A-EON web site. We'll organise a few things differently when we're in the release stage, but for the moment we hope to keep you amused with the contents of our "While you are waiting" section.
You'll already have noticed that this website is a little different from most you've seen. We all know that Amiga computing is something different from the mainstream, and so is this site. Everything should be quite straightforward to use, particularly if you are familiar with AmigaOS, as our site content appears in AmigaOS Workbench-style windows. Like real windows, these can be dragged, stacked and resized. They can also be maximised (toggle with the maximise gadget, second from the right), so you can fill your browser window with these AmigaOS windows without having to drag to resize.
We know that there are still a few of you using some of the unsupported older browsers on your Amigas, and this site isn't going to work too well for you. We recommend OWB (Origyn Web Browser) for Amiga users. Users with some other old browsers (such as IE6) will also have problems displaying the site. We've provided a fallback site to help out, but strongly recommend that you update your browser if you're having problems. We're not using anything too fancy or Flash, just plain old HTML, Javascript and CSS. Any modern, reasonably standards-compliant browser will work fine. You may have been redirected to our fallback site already; alternatively you can connect directly here but we'd really prefer you to use the real site!
To ensure that all French Amigans are kept informed Trevor Dickinson has agreed to provide an in depth interview for Obligement, the premier French webzine. For non French speakers Obligement also offer "hand made" translations into several other languages including English. Expect to see the interview posted on the Obligement website in the next couple of weeks.
For more information visit the Obligement website here.

Little did we realise that when we started the A1-X1000 teaser website just how much publicity and interest it would generate in the wider computing world. In the past few months we have received many requests from computer magazines and technology websites for interviews and statements about the A1-X1000 project. However, we have refrained from releasing too much information and for the time being have preferred to support traditional Amiga news sources with news and interviews. These have included:
Amiga Future magazine: interview with Trevor Dickinson (one of A-EON Technology's founders). A bi-monthly magazine published in both German and English versions and a must for all Amiga enthusiasts.
Link
Micromart magazine: Trevor has also given an interview to Sven Harvey for the AmigaMart section of MicroMart, a national, weekly computer magazine published in the UK. MicroMart is the only mass circulation publication in the UK that still regularly covers the Amiga market. The interview should appear in the next couple of weeks.

AmigaWorld FAQ: In conjunction with Amigaworld.net, we have set up up a FAQ thread about A-EON and the A1-X1000 hardware on the Developer Projects Forum, to provide a focal point for the Amiga community and to present our answers in one place for your easy reference.

While travelling through New Zealand after his mini-expedition to Antarctica, A-EON director and founder Trevor Dickinson took to opportunity of attending the monthly meeting of the Amiga Auckland user group. Needless to say, the main topic of conversation was the newly announced A1-X1000 computer! It's good to know that the Amiga still has a small but dedicated following in New Zealand's North Island. Trevor would like to thank the Amiga Auckland group for their welcoming hospitality and in particular Noel Fuller for hosting the meeting and Garran Whitely for his excellent taxi service. However, Trevor did not escape without handing over NZ$30 to join the Amiga Auckland group ;-)
Those in attendance as the meeting included: Noel Fuller, Warren Hardley, Garran Whitley, Chris Spong, Don Walker, Harvey Muzina and John Rogers.
Trevor also found time to meet up in Wellington with premier AmigaOS4 graphics software developer, Hans de Ruiter of HDR Lab. Hans' day job is keeping him very busy as he attempts to expand his software and electronics business but he still makes time to for his AmigaOS4 passion. On his next trip to NZ Trevor will be in Christchuch and has promised to meet up with a few Amigans in the South Island. Watch this space...
